Course Description:
This course focuses on the usage and function of high-density exterior hardwoods in sustainable design projects. Topics explored include; sustainable yield harvesting, life cycle assessment, project design utilizing sustainable design principles and more.
Course# IPE223 (1 hour face to face instructor led. 1.0 SD/HSW/LU Credits)
  • Learning Objective 1: Participants will be able to recognize, identify and specify high-density exterior hardwood products harvested by sustainable yield forestry methods.
  • Learning Objective 2: Participants will learn about current sustainable yield forestry options available including FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and IBAMA/SEMA methodology.
  • Learning Objective 3: Participants will review a life cycle cost analysis case study, comparing high-density exterior hardwoods and other currently available material options.
  • Learning Objective 4: Participants will explore project design opportunities utilizing the principles of sustainable design with high-density exterior hardwood products.

This seminar will educate Architects and Specification Professionals about current AWS Standards and the options that can be selected in properly defining architectural woodwork. The presenters will provide a brief overview of the Architectural Woodwork Standards Edition 1, and the CSI format for this division. Our goal is to enhance capability of specification writing for Architects and Specification Professionals. Sample specifications will be part of the presentation, available to take away. Please join us for our annual Summer golf outing at Blackstone National Golf Club. If you attended the outing last year, than you know what a fantastic landscape this course rests on.
This beautiful, upscale eighteen hole course is centrally located between Boston, Providence, Hartford, and Worcester. The greens are large and have gradual slope. Sand bunkers are strategically located to the sides of the greens, allowing roll-up shots on all the holes. The fairways are lined with trees, however, they are spacious and forgiving. There are moderate elevation changes throughout the course.
